Édition deux albums originaux en un seul CD: "HAWKINS! ALIVE! AT THE VILLAGE GATE", et "HAWKINS! ELDRIDGE! HODGES! ALIVE AT THE VILLAGE GATE!", tous deux issus d'une même séance d'enregistrements en concert au fameux Village Gate à New York, les 13 & 15 août 1962.
Depuis le milieu des années 50 jusqu'à la mort de Coleman Hawkins en 1969, le saxophoniste tenor a souvent fait équipe avec le trompettiste Roy Eldridge. Toutefois, Hawkins a rarement rencontré l'altiste Johnny Hodges en formation, faisant de cette rencontre un événement spécial.
