Ayant officié jadis au sein de Fairport Convention ou encore en duo avec Linda Thompson, Richard Thompson poursuit sa carrière en solo. Le titre de cet album, Electric, porte très bien son nom. Il est accompagné ici par musiciens appuyant la structure charpentée d'un certain folk-rock. Sur cet album l'artiste oscille dans ses textes entre divers intérêts qui vont d'un soucis social affirmé vers une poésie plus innocente. Les parties acoustiques ne sont pas absentes principalement lorsqu'il frotte son inspiration à des formes plus traditionnelles. (AB)
