"With a lack of cohesion that would have William Caxton sobbing, Dan Martin's Doormouse alter-ego has set about cramming a veritable city worth of sound (Miami Beach in this case) into thirteen songs that, whilst operating in broad strokes, have all the detail of a Sandro Bolticelli. Opening with a wandering introduction from his Ma and Pa, 'Major Changes' kicks off in earnest on 'Mnchknz' wherein Martin succumbs to the Cuban influences that litter Miami's sun-bleached avenues, but given a creepy cartoon makeover that neither cheapens nor brightens its wonderfully malignant tone. Displaying an affinity with breakcore (albeit ADD tamed), 'HOT 107' erupts Through garbled beats which gradually lose their gravitational focus as ebbing glimpses of clockwork show tunes haze in and out of view. Elsewhere, 'Lulu' straddles the line between Cornelius, Karl Marx Stadt and Prefuse 73 through a scattered-to-the-wind kiddy vocal, 'Beautiful Day' could be selection 17 from Squarepusher, whilst 'Kayita' belies a love of abstract percussion and jazz." www.boomkat.com
