Ocean Encounters was recorded on the Hawaiian island of Kauai during the big surf month of February, when waves can reach record heights. Recorded at the beach at Haena. This is the same beach that was chosen as the background setting for "Bali Hai" in the film South Pacific. The high surf is breaking on a barrier reef about 100 yards off shore. The waves that make it to shore can be heard flowing over rocks and the sand beach, then receding back out to sea
