Fondé en 1990, le groupe Nenes (« soeurs ») est composé de quatre chanteuses d'Okinawa. Elles interprètent de manière un peu modernisée la chanson traditionnelle locale, le shima uta, accompagné de sanshin. La composition du groupe a changé plusieurs fois à partir de 1997 sous l'impulsion de leur producteur Sadao China. Cet album date de 2004 et propose un mélange d'airs de Sadao china, de chansons traditionnelles d'Okinawa, « Bengawan Solo » - un classique indonésien et une version de « Coffee Rumba ». This quartet don't have the maturity of voice of the original version, but do a pretty good job on an album that has a big production and sound without the cheesy keyboards and 70s guitar solos that marred earlier efforts. Sixteen backing musicians play keyboards, sax, piano, bass, guitars and Okinawan instruments on a mixture of original Sadao China tunes, traditional Okinawan songs plus the Indonesian classic Bengawan Solo and a version of Coffee Rumba.
