Could the best new Canadian folk singer/songwriter record of 2015 be one comprising songs written more than three decades ago? Quite possibly, given the quality of material on Songs From The Lost & Found, a new collection of mostly previously unreleased songs from reclusive folk songsmith David Wiffen. These primarily come from his '70s and '80s heyday. Wiffen has a rich and warm yet melancholy baritone voice that perfectly suits his sparse and poetic material. His songs have been covered by artists as varied as Tom Rush, Cowboy Junkies, Anne Murray, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and Harry Belafonte, and the buzz this collection is now generating on the international folk scene is certainly justified. Trivia note: in the mid '60s Wiffen played with Bruce Cockburn in Ottawa band the Children.
