"Subtitled "Two Meditations on Transition and Change", this CD is a re-release of a long out of print cassette only session from May 1987. The Beauty of Sorrow was created using a small accordion tuned to the system known as Just Intonation - tuning by whole number ratios from the naturally occurring harmonic series and the Expanded Instrument System (a collection of electronic delays and reverb). There are droning and melodic sections where Pauline spices things up with a twist of the knob from the EIS. Sometimes the EIS contributes a subtle microtonal chorus effect and occasionally pitches glide like a steel guitar".
