Trio New-Yorkais. Don McPherson, Tony Sylvester et Luther Simmons gagnent leur vie en travaillant dans un supermarché de Harlem. Ils économisent de l'argent et achètent en commun un piano pour composer des chansons après le boulot.
Leur musique est marquée par une certaine ambition de réussite commerciale.
Le nom du groupe "Main Ingredients" provient de mots lus sur un bouteille de Coca-Cola.
Compilation de 2 albums "classics" du groupe "Tasteful soul" [1970] et "Bitter sweet" [1971].
