Pour marquer le septante-cinquième anniversaire de Bessie Smith, le label Universal sort "The Complete Columbia Recordings", un coffret de dix disques sur cette impressionnante chanteuse afro-américaine surnommée " l'impératrice du blues ". Cet album contient une centaine de titres enregistrés entre 1923 et 1933 pendant ses années Columbia. L'ensemble permet de découvrir son style particulier qui combine voix puissante et interprétations dramatiques. Incontournable de la scène Blues des années vingt, elle marquera plusieurs générations. Cette compilation contient également la bande sonore du film "St. Louis Blues", ainsi qu'une interview. (CL)
